On October 26, 2017, we were visited by Colonel S. Shepart Bullit, USAAF Military Attaché in Brussels, and his dear wife, Barbie, at the Memorial for the 335th FS in Zandbergen. Bullit was unable to attend the unveiling and wanted to thank us personally for our efforts. It was a wonderful evening, during which we enjoyed their company and conversations. We had also prepared a surprise for him, as we had learned it was his birthday.

On May 8, 2018, VE Day, Colonel S. Shepard (“Bullit”), his wife, and his driver paid tribute to his family, the Belgian World War I aviation hero Willy Coppens. This was done in conjunction with Wings of Memory. A small ceremony was held at the memorial stone. On the way to Ypres, various sights were visited, and wreaths were laid during the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate.
