In May 2003, a commemorative plaque was unveiled on Edingsesteenweg in Denderwindeke in memory of the crew of a Liberator B-24. The initiative came from Marc Thienpont, coordinator of the organizing B-24 committee and a former resident of Denderwindeke. He also wrote a book about this, now out of print, entitled “The Crash of the Liberator B-24 in Denderwindeke on December 29, 1944.”
In 2016, a short commemoration ceremony was held again in collaboration with Wings of Memory.

On April 27, 2024, we were visited by Johana and Dean Stravaca, the daughter and son of S/SGT Peter T Ballas’s sister. They donated their uncle’s personal belongings to Wings of Memory. These special pieces can now be admired in our museum.
