On October 9, 2022, Wings of Memory spent a special day with the family of 1st Lieutenant Robert Homuth. Philip and Lori were back in Belgium and paid us a visit. 1st Lieutenant Robert Homuth, a fallen P-51 Mustang pilot from the 335th Fighter Squadron, was Lori’s uncle. Although they were present at the unveiling of the memorial, they had never previously visited our museum and the tribute to the 335th Fighter Squadron. Their visit began at the memorial and the crash site. At the museum, they were then shown the Mustang parts recovered by Wings of Memory in Zandbergen. It was a warm and emotional day, which concluded with a friendly atmosphere, a beer, and a mattentaart (a traditional Dutch pastry) together with Wings of Memory.
