


On October 14, 1941, the Handley Page Hampden AD975 (KM-N) of the 44th Squadron of the Royal Air Force crashed on Neerstraat, near the Barbara Chapel in Waasmunster. All four crew members were killed and buried in Waasmunster Cemetery.
On Saturday, October 15, 2011, a solemn commemoration ceremony was held at the initiative of Jean Zaman in memory of the crew of the Handley Page Hampden AD975. The ceremony was organized in collaboration with the National Combatants’ Union of Waasmunster and the Secret Army of Hamme, in cooperation with the Waasmunster municipal council and with the support of Wings of Memory.
The ceremony was attended by Jonathan Brenton, Ambassador of the United Kingdom, and Louis de Lorimier, Ambassador of Canada.
