On August 9, 1944, an American heavy bomber B-17G, Group 305BG, SQ 365BS,
serial number 42-102645, MACR 8067, made an emergency landing in Zegelsem (Brakel). Four of the nine crew members did not survive.
An annual commemoration is held in Zegelsem on the corner of N8 and Teirlinckstraat, where a monument has been erected in honor of the crew.
